When You Turned And Looked My Way

I stepped down from my cloud, watched nine years slip away;
My mind was filled with doubt, that you’d ever felt the same;
I thought about that dance, when you said you’d had enough,
You looked me in the eyes, your voice was harsh and tough;

I knew then what was coming
I’d seen it in your face,
My head began to spin,
My pulse began to race,
The floor dropped beneath me, and I tumbled into space.

“There isn’t any way,” you said, “to say this without pain,
To me you’re dead and gone, I wish we’d never been;
When you wait too long, too long, to bind two hearts to one,
You mustn’t be surprised, when love grows cold, it’s done.”

My head began to spin,
My pulse began to race,
I felt an emptiness in my stomach,
As you turned and walked away;
The floor dropped beneath me, and I tumbled into space

I saw your lips were moving, but I didn’t hear your voice,
You spoke as from a distance, and I knew I had no choice;
And while you were receding, I stretched for one last touch,
Grasping for that love, I knew even then, was too good, too much.

And my head began to spin,
My pulse began to race,
I felt my heart was breaking;
When you turned and looked my way,
The floor dropped from beneath me, and I tumbled into space.
