Pebbles underfoot rarely disturb my
Tranquility.
In the sole, however, they breach
Peace of mind and break my stride.
Walking awkwardly, I alternately
Lift my leg to shake the pebble
Loose and take a stumbling step.
I must appear rather silly to
Those with well-sealed soles.

When those pebbles are metaphorical, those make me stumble often.
Once again, you hit upon the perfect phrasing to say something more.
