Live Your Life Like A Leaf

It’s that time of year!

The leaf is a thing,
That brings joy to my heart,
Vibrant green,
With points like a star,
She hangs from the limb, waving at me,
O, pretty leaf, what do you see?

So live your life like a leaf,
Just hangin’ around,
And when your time comes,
Just leap for the ground,
A flying leap, brave and gay,
O, what a great end to your day.

A leaf lives a life,
That’s measured in months,
And changes its skin,
With the change of the sun,
Then leaps away, twirling β€˜round,
O, millions of leaves on the ground!

So live your life like a leaf,
Flittering β€˜round,
And when your time comes,
Just leap for the ground,
Spinning free, your arms to the sky,
O, what a flitting end to a wonderful life.

The millions of leaves,
Of orange, red, and gold,
Are piled in heaps,
Where they fade and grow old,
They’re spent and they’re done,
O, pretty leaf no more flitting in the sun.

So, live your life like a leaf,
Just hangin’ around,
And when your time comes,
You leap for the ground,
Smiling and waving at people like me,
O, little leaf, flittering free.

    1. Thank you, Jade, you’re so kind. I have to admit I enjoy reading it for the warm feeling it gives me. Autumn is my favorite season although it brings an end. I love raking leaves in the cool weather. It’s funny that the season of dying is the season when I feel most alive.

      1. I completely understand, because Autumn is my favorite season as well. One of my greatest joys is watching the leaves turn all the beautiful shades of gold and crimson and yet, if you think about it, the leaves are actually dying when that happens. But Autumn really shows that there truly is beauty in death and allows you to appreciate the cycle of life, at least in my opinion πŸ™‚
