Mirror

Lines, creases, crinkles
Wrinkles, crow’s feet
Haunted eyes
Joyless smile
Emptiness and sorrow
The wonder whys
Regrets
Mirror receives them all

Graying hair, Bags
Dark circles
Neck once nuzzled by
Lovers and babies
Sagging skin
Sinking heart
Withering hopes
Curse the years

Look at me
Look at me
See?
See?
You are what you see
See beauty
See love
See wonder

Hold your head up
Tilt your head
Throw your chin out
Pout, coy, coquette
Come hither
Give your tears to me
Let me reflect your beauty
Let me cry in return for your smile

    1. Thank you, Miriam. We put such a premium on physical beauty that we forget to look beneath the surface at the beauty within. As we age, grace, self-confidence, and wisdom are the beauty we project. The smile is what attracts others to us.

    1. We can’t go back. We have to understand how physical beauty becomes less important as we age, and how grace, self-confidence, and wisdom demonstrate the beauty beneath the skin. The smile is what makes us attractive to others.

    1. Aging gracefully is difficult. Physical beauty becomes less important as grace, wisdom, and self-confidence project the beauty beneath the skin. The smile is really what makes us attractive to others. Thank you for reading and commenting 🙂
