What the…?

The oath I took when I enlisted in the Navy and, for twenty-seven years, re-affirmed to at each re-enlistment and promotion, states that I will defend the nation against all enemies foreign and domestic. That hallowed oath resides in me until I leave this Earth.

My veteran friends who align with me politically often state that they are ready to take up arms to defeat the very ideology that now appears to be sweeping our nation and, in fact, will lead it beginning on January 20th.

However, we do not get to choose the enemy, our politicians do.

In the eyes of many of those politicians now, and soon to be, in office, my veteran friends and I are the enemy.
How’s that for irony?

I’m glad my Dad’s not alive to see what the nation he suffered for has come to. https://writersenvy.com/2018/05/28/eighteen-thousand-two-hundred-and-fifty-4/

  1. You and your friends will never be the enemy in the eyes of the people who see what is going on, and there are many people who are willing to stand with you when the time comes.

      1. You’re welcome. Not to be too cynical, but that depends entirely on whether or not voting has any impact on the outcome.

  2. It is a sad day for America when the politicians only think about retaining their power. I hope someday patriotism comes back. Thanks for your and your father’s service to our country!
