This is a line in my novel. I was trying to describe the dual feelings of my main character, and was struck by the similarity in the way the body shows joy and grief. As you say, people can mistake your emotion until you tell them how you really feel.
BTW, have you ever seen a smiling jogger? 🙂
Yes! This is so true. Thanks for this. Its the exact same feeling. My grief is so intense but at the same time my deep love for my lover feels exactly the same. I thought i was going crazy the other day but then realized it’s two very different emotions with the same representation so to speak…
It continues.. sorry… All of that unspent love gathers up in the corners of your eyes, that lump in your throat and the hollow part of your chest. Grief is just love with no place to go…
In tis post-modern world, is there truly any difference between grief and love?

Thank you, Ginger. Happily, I’m not feeling grief! This is a line from the opening of my novel. I was struck by the way we express emotion.

You have done well, it felt like very real grief to me. And I’m glad you are well.

I recall bursting into tears one day from happiness..everyone asked if I was ok! My smile must have been a grimace.

I’ve always thought it wasn’t fair for media to photograph runners as they end the races.

It’s funny. We can cry our eyes out for joy, but someone will ask “What’s wrong.”

I have this beautiful quote… it says: Grief, I have learnt is just love. It’s all the love you want to give, but cannot.
